3 Studies Showing Sweating Detoxifies Chemicals

- A groundbreaking 2011 study on sauna therapy found that “Many toxic elements appeared to be preferentially excreted through sweat. Presumably stored in tissues, some toxic elements readily identified in the perspiration of some participants were not found in their serum. Induced sweating appears to be a potential method for elimination of many toxic elements from the human body.”
- In a 2012 study published in Scientific World Journal, researchers collected blood, urine, and sweat from 20 individuals and analyzed the samples for parent phthalate compounds and phthalate metabolites using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results found both parent phthalates and their metabolites were excreted in the sweat.
- Another study from 2012 tested participants to see if sweating would remove the hormone-distrupting chemical Bisphenol A from their bodies. In 16 of 20 participants, BPA was identified in sweat, even in some individuals with no BPA detected in their serum or urine samples.

The 3 Types of Saunas
There exists 3 types of saunas, one of which you may not know about. Let’s take a look at all three…
1. Traditional Steam Sauna:
Traditional steam saunas have been used for thousands of years by indigenous to purify their bodies. Although steam saunas do cleanse the body, far more effective saunas have been developed.
- If the steam is generated from tap water, then you’ll be inhaling up to 500 toxic chemicals with every breath.
- Since it operates at very high temperatures (150-210°F), it is costly to heat.
- Heats only the surface of the body.
2. Far Infrared Sauna:
Far Infrared Saunas use ceramic or metallic heating elements that emit far infrared energy. They are effective at lower temperatures (130°F), and the infrared energy can penetrate the body up to 1.5 inches for a more effective cellular detoxification.

How to Use a Near Infrared Sauna
The amount you use a Near Infrared Sauna is really up to you. It depends on how much time you’re willing to spend on cleansing your body, and your level of health.
If you are sick or have been diagnosed with a disease, you might want to do it more often. In his book Sauna Therapy, Dr. Lawrence Wilson recommends you sit inside a Near Infrared Sauna as much as 3 times a day for 30 minutes each time. Reported in the book Detoxify or Die, a study by Dr. Rea gave 210 patients with a variety of symptoms one or two 40-minute saunas a day for a month. 63% of patients significantly decreased their levels of toxic chemicals and 31% experienced decreased symptoms.
Another protocol for Sauna Therapy is Dr. Wu’s Detoxification Protocol, which involves the use of a Rebounder, Niacin (Vitamin B3), and a Sauna. He claims that if you do it everyday for 30 days, almost all of the chemicals in your body will be eliminated.
